Howard's Story

Most people remember me as Robot. I was always drawing the Lost in Space Robot in class and building robots as a hobby. I wore suspenders to hold up my pants, when all the other guys wore belts. I was thought of as something quite unusual at the time for my time by many people I knew. I designed and built Robots and Radios that worked, I was very shy and felt awkward around girls back when I was young, I did not do well in sports, and most girls would not go out with me when I worked up the nerve to talk to them, so I concentrated most of my efforts on technology, I could understand machines. I have always loved Science. At the 1975 Vocational Industrial Clubs of America "V.I.C.A". District 10 Competition. I took First Place again for my project, a homebrew original Hybrid Audio Power Amplifier I built from scratch, and for having placed first place also in the speed and skill competition. I was Awarded my First Place Trophy and two blue Ribbons in my second year of Radio TV Repair, and to top things off, as if things could not get any better, I actually met Ron Stone from "Big 2 Television News". Mr. Stone had gone from CBS Channel 11, to NBC Channel 2 in Houston Texas in 1975, and he was covering our event that unforgettable day. I met the great man at the "Houston Astrodome", after our V.I.C.A Contest. The event was Televised on Big 2 News. Mr. Stone honored me with these words I will always remember and I quote; "Mr. Rollins, you literally eat, sleep and drink electronics, Someone like you only comes around once in a million years, and it is my honor and pleasure to have met you sir" end quote. He also said that he was sure that he would be seeing much about me in the years to come. I was overwhelmed, and humbled and made to feel proud all at once by that experience. I had always looked up to Mr. Stone since I was a child, and had admired him for many years as an outstanding News Reporter and Commentator. Words can not fully express how I felt when he told me that it was his honor to have met me. There is only one thing I can say about that; "Wow!" People had called me "Robot", as my nickname for many years, since I was constantly drawing the Lost in Space TV Se...Expand for more
ries Robot in class, and just about everywhere else I went at the time. I went on to build a full sized working replica of the robot and was honored at the College of the mainland in the early 90's for having accomplished that among other scientific achievements. I picked up a new nickname during the competition, The called me "Walking-Radar". I am an Inventor, and I hold patent # 60/06-650,075 at the Department of Patents & Trademarks Office. This Device is the Automatic Self Flushing Toilet. Originally I called it the Automated Commode Fixture. I put the Brains Behind the Drains! The Toilet, that remembers to flush it's self, after it has been used. Now I am working on other projects and products that will enrich the lives of millions of people. I love everything associated with Scientific innovation, I believe that I always have done so, and always will. I do not believe that what we share as an experience could easily be duplicated, matched or surpassed by any other School, Time or Place in History. I recall many talented and Intelligent people and Great experiences. We shared much together that was and remains very special. I believe that what we shared was very rare and unique to us as a group. I will always value and treasure our associations with one another. May god bless you always in all you do. Take care for now, Sincerely I remain Howard Daniel Rollins III AKA; "ROBOT"
